Note:
  • Patients with asthma are more likely to get influenza and be hospitalized with influenza (flu is more potent asthma exacerbation trigger than rhinovirus), and vaccination is ~60% effective
  • LAIV (FluMist) should be avoided in children (especially very young children) with asthma or recurrent wheezing
  • Patients with asthma are more likely to get invasive pneumococcal disease, and PPSV23 is ~75% effective
